Absolutely. Roe works best on both chinook and coho jack salmon early in the season. Chinook jack are any chinook salmon under 62cm long. Coho jack salmon are much smaller, usually around 30 to 40cm long.

The good thing about chinook jacks is that they can be caught throughout the day as long as you can find them. On the other hand, adult coho salmon and jacks can get picky at times if it gets too bright outside.

Be aware that chinook jack and adult coho can be hard to distinguish if you are starting out. Just about all the chinook jack are not adipose clipped on the Chilliwack River, so don't mistaken a wild adult coho salmon as a chinook jack. If you are unsure, please read:

If there's a jack in the pool he'll go out of his way to clobber roe. Roe all the way for them!

So a jack spring is a retarded chinook who came back to the stream years too early and won't be going back to the ocean?
I'm curious if that is why you are allowed to keep so many.

Most tackle shops will also carry roe for purchase as well.
