Title: Volunteers needed on Ashlu River, juvenile salmonids removal
Post by: Rodney on June 27, 2007, 05:25:53 PM
On Friday the 6th of July Adri Bigsby of the BC Conservation Foundation will isolate a 2-300m section of the Ashlu Barr Channel (part of our 06 restoration) with stop nets upstream and down. Volunteers will set 90 traps throughout the channel to capture juvenile salmonids.

On Saturday the 7th with the help of volunteers they will count and measure all of the fish in the traps, and move them to a nearby channel. The traps will then be reset.

On Sunday the 8th they will again measure the captures and move them to a nearby channel.

Volunteers will need waders, rain gear, lunch and water.

They are removing the fish from the channel so that in the coming weeks they can de-water it. They will then modify the intake, making it more reliable, and remove material from a 75 to 100m section of the channel.

There is a lot of construction in the area with the Ledcor IPP, so the event will have to be well structured.
