Title: How much gear is enough?
Post by: jetboatjim on February 26, 2007, 02:17:34 PM
I'm just wondering if some of you think like me latley, how much gear do we need?
rods ?
reels?
vests?
waders?
and all that other crap that we carry around in our vests that we never use.

Pin rod #3 tomorrow..
Was debating on a new Mykiss pin reel...but got two now and can't fish um both so went with something I really needed....
a littler weight pin rod...
only one gear rod and reel...
3 fly rods, 4-6-9 wts..
4 fly reels, 4-6 (2) - 9
a few extra spools...
too many vests etc.
could use a back up pair of waders, have some hodgmans but they leak..
couple pairs of wading boots..
Shoot I don't have near the stuff you guys got...I'm a tadpol in a pool of sharks..

I just need one of your pimp waders with the total bling!  Then I would have enough.

Except, I'm planning to get a Campbell pin this summer and then I need a matching rod.  Also, got to get another rod for the Okuma pin I haven't sold yet after I upgrade the bearings on it.  And, I think it's time to replace the baitcaster with a different one...maybe a Luna or something...and I need a new rod as well.....

Okay, it's never enough! ;D

Well, I have 3 drift rods, 4 level winds, 4 fly reels, 2 fly rods, 4 fly lines, 1 spin casting combo.  That is it for the actual gear.  I have 1 vest that is always way to heavy!! ::), 2 pairs of waders, breathable and neo.  2 Pairs of wading boots and 2 fishing jackets.

But, I will have a sturgeon set up coming hopefully and a fishcat u-boat!!  Just have to sell a couple things!! ;D

:o :o :o How much is enough... that is unquantifiable for a tackle junkie such as myself.  ;D There is always something new to try in the vast array of fishing paraphernalia.  :)

I'll just list off the top of my head.

7 fly setups including reels 3wt-9wt's as well as extra spools

1 Spey Setup

2 drift setups as well as a few extra Abu's 5000-7000

3 barfishing setups including reels

3 complete sturgeon setups

3 complete mooching setups

About 4 or 5 spinning setups

Of course my waders, boots and vest. Also have a William Joseph fly fishing utility belt. A few nets. 2 boats ( my 16 footer and my frog boat ) and a Fish Cat 4

I know I am forgetting some things as well. Dont bother trying to come to my house as we have a very good house alarm and everything is locked up nice and tight. Also have a nice police officer as a neighbour. Oh and my trusty Louisville Slugger beside my bed ;)

I think listing our "gear" is detrimental to personal security.  It is not hard to find out where someone lives.  Security or not, noone says no to a gun(even if you own one).

You coming after us? Trust me theives are after easier resale items like computers, TV's, DVD players all electronic stuff. Not fishing stuff.

Thats why I took out a $50K insurance policy on my fishing gear.........

I have a 110 lb dog and a ADT alarm system, not to mention a Italian wife, so if anyone feels lucky enough to make it out alive go ahead.

Hey FishFreak.  What kind of Sage 5 wt did you get?  I've got a 590 SLT and a 590 VPS and they're both excellent rods.  The SLT is a bit lighter and "smoother", but the VPS has been a real workhorse for me over the years.   :)

Ah yes.  The LE was only produced for a few years before being discontinued along with the DS2.  They were replaced by the Launch and FLi.  I haven't casted one before, but the DS2 was quite a nice easy casting rod.  Should be good for trout!  Let me know how it works out.

I have a DS2 in a 6wt very easy casting rod. I absolutely love it. Its my go to rod. I also have a 5wt LE. I actually prefer the DS2. Just got a St.Croix Premier 4 piece 4wt. I tried it out for cutties this weekend and now I love this rod even more than the DS2. For a light rod it can punch out the line with ease. Playing fish on this rod is a ton of fun too ;)
