I think we should hold the BBQ and weigh in at the Cedar Run in the Upper, there is a big space for people to converge, lots of parking and there is great fishing close by ;)
also seeing as the BBQ looks like a go we will all need to bring some type of foodstuff, if you could please respond and give an idea of what you can bring we can make sure we have everything we need...
TR

Yeah, well 5 trips in, he is back. I am a man possessed with Steely fishing again. :o ;D I am heading out again tomorrow, and since it was a wonderful day, and I hear the vis is good, I am checking out the lower, well I might check out the lower. That Derby runs is still beckoning at me as well!! ;D ;D By the time this little derby comes around, I will have so many choices on nice places to fish, I don't know how I will make up my mind!! ;D ;D

If the river conditions are worth it I will be there. Hopefully get some prizes for you guys too.
although i don't agree with derbies, especially on steelhead, the choice of charities is a good one and good on you for that, i would suggest looking into possible insurance coverage??? ask the Boxing Day Derby people if you may need it
I'll volunteer if I get a ride - won't have a vehicle. Am looking forward to it - Thickrick.... if you can let me know if I can hitch with you then I'll mark my calender. I'll do whatever - but can't guarantee the cooking skills. As long as you don't mind getting up at 5 am then I can give you a lift to the river no problem :) I live pretty close to you
Good Luck everyone - sounds like great prizes....
I will check in the morning to see what a vat of coffee will cost us from Tims. That would be awesome!! I could go for that!! ;D ;D Have to go watch the Nucks kick some my friend yet again!! ;D
There are still quite a few people that haven't informed me of what they are bringing to the BBQ, seeing that it is only a few days away could you please let me know asap so I know what I have to bring :)
Thx TR

Hey TR - two questions... first, is there a list of stuffs we want/need for the BBQ? Second, seeing that I'm new to the vedder, I'm not sure where the 'Cedar Run' is - could you splain, Lucy? Or post/email me the google earth local? (that IS where the BBQ is going to be, yes?)
I'll bring garbage bags, chopped onions, ketchup, mustard and Relish. Don't think I'll be there all afternoon for the whole BBQ, so someone will need to volunteer to haul out the full garbage bags.
Would it be possible for me and the cohokid to pay at the weigh in? Because my dad is in chicago until saturday and probably won't be up to taking us at 5 in the morning that is IF he feels like taking us at all.Well I hope that you can make it there for the whole day, I am sure there is someone in youre area that will be able to pick you up
I will check in the morning to see what a vat of coffee will cost us from Tims.Thx Chris, let me know and we will raise the funds :)
Maybe I may have missed it but is someone bringing some dry wood?
Lets see if someone can bring some that will not cost anything before we buy some. Temperature looks cold in the long range so a blazing fire will be nice. ;D ;DMaybe I may have missed it but is someone bringing some dry wood?
I am sure that I could get a couple of bundles from canadian tire or something like that, but We would need more than that wouldn't we?? Does someone have a line on getting free stuff, that could get costly?? :)
Will bring.TR do you want me to bring the tickets in case we do some draws for the prizes?
He told me he wanted the tickets to make things easier
come by the school this week I got lot's in the shopI'll do that Thursday or Friday. ;)

Highwater Tackle in North Vancouver is also donating a prize yet to be announced ;Dwhen will the prize be picked up? I think I can add something to the list if I will see Dave before you pick up the prize from him. With the proceeds going back to the Vedder I will see about a rod or a reel if possible. Will let you know what it is when I see Dave on tuesday.
well i just found out. i don't have the car that day ??? ??? so i don't have a ride out there for the derby. does anyone live near abbotsford.. and would be willing to take me along with them :-[ kinda a last minute thing for people so i can understand if its to late for anyone. thanks
got fish :)
mail me your address at my email
i will see if Nuggy or me can pick you up :)
OK you can take me off the maybe list and put me into the yes :)

Rick, vat of coffee, cups, cream and sugar is $65. I could have asked for a donation of it but would feel bad doing it as we have our cleanup the following week. Each cleanup they provide at least one vat, muffins and donuts so could not ask to get it for free, sorry.
Do you have enough funds for me to order it, if so what time do you want it ready, 6 am so it can go up to the Cedars then or do you want me to bring it up for 1 PM?. Let me know please.
Chris, Rick, pm sent....Thanks for your support also of picking up the coffee tab.
I'm donating a brand new William & Joseph satchel....here's a pick

20 bucks is a little steep for a derby, plus i dont have a partner to fish with, i dont like fishing alone,
20 bucks is a little steep for a derby, plus i dont have a partner to fish with, i dont like fishing alone,
hmmm, I thought $20 was a very reasonable price especially when there is approx $1000 worth of prizes to be won and it includes a BBQ ;D ;D not to mention every penny is going back into the river
20 bucks is a little steep for a derby, plus i dont have a partner to fish with, i dont like fishing alone,
The money raised is going back into the river. How is that a steep price? Its more like a donation than a price....How many times a year do you fish this river? If you fish it more than twice a year I would say its a small price.

I've got a suggestion
what about donation ?
so like people who isnt willing to pay $20 can pay $10 but people who wants to donate and have more money can give $30
so people will not be like " omg i have to pay this thing alot "
coz its called donation and should not be forced
well it is just my opinion..
Coffee ordered this am as well as 3 dozen donuts. Will picked up and deliver to the site by 12 noon.
The owner of all the Tim Hortons here in the Wack asked when I was going to take him steelhead fishing, I did not know he even fished. Has only hooked one after a few years of trying. I guess I should have invited him to the event and we could have had all the donuts and coffee we wanted. ;D ;D ;D
By the way he is a Leaf fan also. ;D ;D

Now you know why he's only hooked one after years of effort. ;D That does it; I'm taking my business elsewhere. ;D
Can anyone bring firewood or a chainsaw? It`s gonna be a little on the chilly side :o and I don`t know if there is access to drift wood around there. I could pick up mill ends if anyone knows a place that gets rid of free stuff.I am bringing the firewood, I am picking it up on Friday. But since I would like to go fishing right off the bat, I will try and see if we could give it to Rick so he could take it to the site of the weigh in/bbq site. ;D
Cheers

Yes do not forget to come by on friday. Drive to the back of the building and back up the ramp to the metal gates. The wood will all be boxed so that it will not reck the inside of your car. Also remind me to give you your jigs that I tied up for you.
I'm in as well. Well Depending on Road and water conditions but they should be OK if it stays dry. I missed out on the boxing day derby and felt I could have won with all the newbies that took home the prizes ;D. So I need to enter at least one derby this year.
i'm in. are you guys going to be in the parking lot or inside? i don't know any of you, how will i know who to talk to? couple guys from work are interested too. is this an open derby? by the way $20 is a good deal.

150 Styrofoam coffee cups which we can use as chili and soup bowls
48 plastic spoons
48 plastic forks
I will also bring the prize, table, propane tank and 2 burner camp stove.
Cheers
Nuggy
I'm thinking i'll be in. I gotta try and get in contact with my buddy to see if he wants to partner up. Is it $20/team or /person?Its not teams anymore. Its individuals and its $20/person
It could be very cold as well as windy outside and I am sure most will want to grab a coffee, visit before heading out. At that time of the morning especially being a Sunday it should not be all that busy. What is the tally of participates now Rick, I see on the poll says 35. ;D ;D
Well today I made my first trip to the Vedder of the year and Scouted out a spot for the derby and man was it cold! Fished one spot for about ten minutes and got thumped by the wind. Drove 2 min up the road to a more sheltered area put one cast in and my day was done. Water is still crappy with mabey a foot of vis at best had to fish above to croosing today which sucks but It payed off with 2 pounds of fresh Jam for derby day.

ok stupid question time.Seeing that I am not a coffee fan let alone a Tim Horton's fan, What side of the freeway is the Tim Horton's at Lickman road? I usually turn off at the Yarrow exit so I have never been there. Just incase I can make it on sunday and would like to enter this derby.

Hey Rick is it possible to get a list of all the prizes and what else has been donated on a seperate thread. This might help bring more people out. Especially if they can see a list of prizes without having to scroll threw all these posts.
Thanks

No unfortunatly I will not be able to attend as my wife has to work so I will be home with the kids. But since I am not able to attend I thought it would be nice to go out and get a drift rod donated from Hatch Matchers fly and tackle and to also donate some of my steelhead jigs for the great cause.
nosey and i are going to be there and we will have 4 or 5 cambell centerpins a couple bushings and a couple berrings they go for $250 have a look at the derby i have one as does nosey we have cought many fish on them. never had a problem i choose to use it over my calcutta, but i will be using my silex. call me supersticious that i allready landed a big steel on it so will be useing it i. i hope that all will be ethical and have no long liners! i was fishing shallow with a small piece of wool. so please no flossing. ????are the rules going to be the same as the boxing day derby no outside help from others like guids and such? hope to see a good turn out. couldnt go for a scout on the river so i sent nosey to nose around.will find out later and give a post in the fishing report!Rules are the same !! and with the group of people that will be attending you have nothing to worry about, this is a group of some of the best guys/gals and some very very good rod's.. I hope everyone has a great time and this is the beginning of something that we can hold each year !!
Hey Aaron you still have two tag alongs? I can probably take someone in my truck. Also if anything needs to be picked up in vancouver I'll be driving into PoCo tonight and can load lots of stuff into the box of my truck.
Speaking of girls, mine gave me the OK to go. She's a catch!!!
SO I hope that you guys like fish, I just prepared some Red Spring in a redwine/cracked pepper marinade. Then followed it up with a buch od Sockeye in a Garlic/herbs marinade. I'll let it soak in that for a couple hrs, then wrap it all up in tin foil packages ready to go on the BBQ!! Should take 20 min or so to cook!! ;)Very nice, fishing should be good as I heard personally of at least 3 taken today. I have this bad cold I got a few days ago and could not get out and get one myself. :'(

But looking at it now, not sure if it is enough, so I just took out some more Red Spring. Hoping it will defrost by the time I go to bed tonight, and I will bring along some garlic butter to cook it with!! ;D
Dont over cook the fish, remember when you take it off the BBQ it will continue to cook its self
I'll bring some steelhead tags, just incase someone forgot. To top it all off I have lost my voice because of the cold I got a few days ago and maynot even be able to answer. ::) ???
Prawns are soaking in steelie pink procure as I type ;D
And Chris, you may want to bring some ear plugs tomorow as the Leafs just couldn't pull it off. Be prepared to hear about it ;DSTROLLING, STROLLING, STROLLING
To top it all off I have lost my voice because of the cold I got a few days ago and maynot even be able to answer. ::) ???
