Title: Anise Oil... Where to get?
Post by: goinfishin on October 08, 2006, 05:06:52 PM
Anyone know where to buy 100% anise oil? I checked at berry's and they only had  that extra strength Mike's anise scent which was small and pricey and was a gel type of liquid. Was hoping to get a big container in to store the roe in. Anyone know where to buy this anise oil ????

thanks!

Some use it for baking.

You can also get it from pharmacies.  Save-on-foods pharmacist ordered it for me and it cost about $6 for a 25ml bottle. The first thing the pharmacist asked was if I was a fisherman ;D

BTW, you do not need a lot of anise oil. It is very fragrant. I think if you do search on fishingwithrodney you can find "recepies" where people recommend how much of anise oil is enough per a jar. If I remember correctly even few drops will do it.

Whatever you do, don't spill it in your vest. We could smell you coming 30 feet away

Only a few drops in a whole jar? i guess the scent is supposed to just permeate it rather than having the roe soak in it directly?

You fill up a jar with some other non secented oil (like one of those mineral oils from save on pharmacy section) and than you add few drops of anise oil (not sure what is the best ratio though) into it. That way you will save quite few $$$.
