Hit the vedder first light today at my new favorite run just about upper/mid river. Fish were rolling as soon as i got there as they allways seem too, i thought with the little bit of rain the bite would be better today but it wasant. Had to work pretty hard to get a 20 pound semi clean spring and a dirty chum female. Took a peep at the tailout when the sun came up and OMG! i had never seen so many coho in my life there must of been 40 or so some very nice and chrome some not so much but all were decent size just a few jacks. Worked everything i had at them for 2 hours they just stood in one spot the entire time ignoring everything but each other >:( Checked out KWB for a laugh at the end of my trip as i usually do. GOD!! PLZ!!! post one dfo officer to come and check in on that place at least 2 times a week!!!!!!!! the gong show was ridiculous everyone was casting in the same spot about 60 floats in a square meter area, someone would foul hook a fish every cast out of the gong show and keep the fish(most of them were boots) saw allot of fish holding away from the crowed too ;D HUGE! SPRINGS! I'm sure they are just waiting for the rain to rush up to our isolated low pressure spots. Also saw another intresting thing a head of a spring left on the beach, without a doubt i have got to say its the biggest spring head i have ever seen i would go so far as saying that the fish must of weighed at least 80 pounds. Sad part was the head was dirty as hell and its probably safe to say it was snagged. Seeing that made me thing of the post about people killing small fish and i realized killing something so big is even more wrong, i mean no one needs that much meat and I'm sure they don't appreciate the work after :P if it was me i would of snapped a quick pic to show my children :D and off it would of went. Just shows how little most of the fishermen appreciate the great salmon fishery we have.

Thanks for the report Floater :)

I dont blame the fish for being tight lipped, after they wittness the guantlet where the buddies are getting snagged out constantly, why would they ever bite something again? Same thing happened yesterday for me, a bunch of coho and nothing would snap at anything i touched there noses with. Thanks for the report.

at least 80 lbs you trollin?? :o :P If thats true danmmmmmmmmm.
-
Can you post a pic of the head... ? its horrible how people can do that ,its makes the sport look bad. >:( >:( >:(

Good report floater. Nothing surprises me on the Vedder now a days. More DFO enforcement would be nice, but perhaps shutting down parts of the river to allow the salmon to get through would be something to consider - especially at KWB.

took some time for me to figure out what "OMG" means, in french it means GMO :o, but I think I get it ;D

80lbs you say???? That would be a Vedder Record I believe....... Yes there were some bigguns in there toady, I was into a couple over 40 landed one of them, and had a huge mofo on that bust my 8lb test like it was tinsle!!! Man are the strong. I just might have to take out the meat pole and see how big of one I can land!! ;D

yah im sure it was a record because if never seen anything this big before at first i thought it was a log then i went down and took a closer look. Good to hear you got into some big ones i cant wait for the rain to fall so i can remember what its like to go home with hurting arms. :P

Why would someone just cut the head off? I know most of these guys at the KWB are ignorant to the ways of fishing, but what's the benefit of cutting the heads off? In this case, it is illegal to be in possession of a fish without the head and tail on.
-
anyone ever see seals at the lower vedder? I've seen them in the Harrison munching on fish. I could be wrong, but don't think they're particularly fond of the heads, unlike bears.
-
there was a seal in allison pool a few years back.

You are allowed to retain the fish without the head as long as the tail is still attached providing it is over 62 cm.

seals will usually rip open the belly and eat the guts only.

The river is to low for seals to come up.

A couple of friend and myself were out today at Vedder. We got there well not too early but still okay. Anyways. We walked around abit finding a good spot without so many chum mixing in. Found a good stretch my friend got into a small jack coho but soon it popped out. All in all lots of chum and a few bit coloured spring and a few frightened coho (chased by chum) and thats about it. Got tired of realeasing chums we decided to head home early.

"The river is to low for seals to come up."
No, not really it just makes it easier to club them back downstream. ::)

Went out yesterday for a serious session, and today for a walk around to check out water before the family feed... I unfortunately saw a dead female chum that was laying in the bottom of a pool, a victim of belly hunting...
Yesterday was such a great day, we had such a good time, fished from 11am until 7pm, and the day felt like about three hours. Got into some chum, and my boyfriend caught his first! Here's a photo of him playing his trophy :)

After his fourth one, he now says he is starting to understand why they are sort of annoying :) And my rod that he was using came the closest I've ever seen it come to breaking, the fish was nuts and impossible to control... Mental note, I also must get a bigger net, only half of it fit in my current model :)
Anyhow, I hooked a hot chinook on my black bugger, and that fish had me into my backing in about two seconds... Unfortunately he got a loop on me, and when trying to untangle my flyline, the guy broke me off. Never got to see that one exept for one leap, and it pushed 20 pounds easy.
As for the coho, they were there, and started to roll everywhere in the last hour of light. I managed this one, which seemed to be the younger brother of last weeks!

And then, on a billion snags, we managed to lose the remainder of the black muddlers and black buggers, and we were, well buggered ;)
All and all, it was a great day, and I was happy to avoid the mayhem I witnessed today while walking between the quarry and cottonwoods! I didn't even bother tossing a fly other than one settling pond... Wow I can't wait until we get a foot of volume... With another week of sun forecast, it looks like coho season may be over before we get it though :(
Cheers,
Nicole

Yesterday was such a great day, we had such a good time, fished from 11am until 7pm, and the day felt like about three hours.
I had one of those days yesterday with the girlfriend and a buddy of mine...really a great day when you can avoid or ignore the crowds, despite their presence, and just enjoy the company and the views!!! Having good friends with you can have a way of insulating you...

went out saturday, me my buddy and his cousin, both are older than me and both were catching more fish than any one else, in total we hooked 6 springs 5 were dark one was ifish, 1 coho silver, and 42 chum. Every body would cast right on your line when ever u hooked a fish, really pissed me off when i lost one of the silver springs i hooked! >:(
