Stumbled on this vintage ad and seemed fairly usual until I saw the price at the end.
FIFTY BUCKS in 1955 for an Ambassadeur 6000 reel (no ball bearings even!).
Who the heck could have afforded that?
That's would be close to $1000 now with inflation.

I was reading a book on float fishing. The center pins back then cost around 50-60 bones...the averege guy was making $14 a week...

Wow, that was really an expensive reel for what people gets paid for working in 1955. I thought my Islander fly reels and Shimano CTE400 baitcasting reels were expensive.
