Title: First one back...Great Job today at the clean up, nice meeting you guys
Post by: Xgolfman on September 24, 2006, 03:18:30 PM
Well, guess I'm the first one back, went up earlier then planned...fished without success..damn things like to jump my fly line though...Went to the clean up and over 200 people showed up and a WHOLE lot of garbage was picked up...Big Thanks to Rod, C.G. and 2:40...nice job guys and thanks for all the cool stuff....2:40, thanks again...the fish will be in heaven much quicker now ;)..

Was good to see CMK and meet Fishforever....Missed T.R. and B.S. saw your truck but never saw where you guys went...Hope everyone did well in the afternoon...I was beat and the border was supposed to be way backed up...I was sweating it and with an hour line up at Sumas going south..hustled down before it got longer and pulled right up and through...Don't know why 1130 does that but that's the um teenth time I've heard the line up was huge and found nothing there..Can't complain this time though..would have fallen asleep in the line up probably...

Again, thanks to everyone who was at the clean up and a really nice job on the organization and to Rod, Chris, 2:40 , Lew and all the guys there...also it was extremely nice of DNE to donate the bait boxes...class act....

Thanks for coming out golfman. ;D I think Thickrick, Big Steel and Merc are still fishing. ;) I just arrived home, pretty exhausted. Now we are all going to invade the Vedder with our big blue bait box around our waist right? ;)

Photos to come, stay tuned. :)

Rodney: thanks for the gifts, and to the rest of the volunteers take a bow for a job well done. With regards to the bait box, I am going to see if I can also use it as a stripping basket for some shooting heads I am getting for my fly rod.

So where was this homeless people camp setup?  It is a shame that the City of Chilliwack does not step in, to prevent such illegal camp sites.

Thanks to the CVRCC for putting on another great cleanup event. As always it was well organized. There were some great draw prizes and plenty of food to go around for everyone  :D  I didn't go home totally skunked, got a nice DFO mug to go along with my DFO hat that I already have ;D

XGolfman, it was great to finally meet the man behind all the gear gloating posts  ::) You Americans have weird customs, greeting our Canadian women with an open fly  :-\ It was great to see my old friend Indian Ronny too, haven't seen him since I fished Tunkwa with him back in the mid 90's.

FWR representin ;) It was great to see all the other FWR members out there too, like Bigsteel, Dan the Man, Fishforever, bbronswyk2000, Troutslayer, Thick Rick, and others that I missed. I bet Dan kept the DVD's for himself  8)  lol

Rod, I should have grabbed another sky blue bait box, as I always seam to fish with a pair of bait boxes all the time  :P

I was laughing my my friend off when we were taking that photo. ;D Was a great day on the river even though the fishing was on the slow side of things. WE NEED RAIN!!! Still managed a big ol' nasty chrome whitey that I released at first light though. Thanks to all those involved in the CVRCC for making this such a great program of what it is today and helping it be introduced to other urban streams that we love. ;D

Well, once again, a very successful day. The weather was perfect, there was plenty of garbage and the food, prizes, entertainment and displays were spot on. Big thanks to the CVRCC, all the volunteers, those who brought displays, businesses who donated prizes, the music band and especially Frank Kwak and his wife who worked very hard again to feed us all. To those who stayed home or went fishing; my thanks to you as well.  :P  ;)

Enjoyed meeting a few members before going out with Bronswyk and his buddy to clean up the mentioned abandoned campsite. What a mess in there. Doesnt help that everything, food and so forth, had been sitting around for at least two weeks.

Bronswyk digging in. He soon after found a brand-new Philly Flyers hat!!! What did you do with that btw? Should I be watching for you to break it in on the flow next time your're out? It'll go good with a yellow rainjacket and big coffee grinder ;D j/k

One of two loads I took in my truck.  :o
(http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b69/LaForge_/fishing/CVRCCCleanupSeptember242006038.jpg)

The big bin at the end of the day. We had to pile garbage beside it too!!! I bet close to a record collection. Im sure we'll have the numbers by next week.

BBQ time.

Prize draw.

I stood with XGolfman and enjoyed as we joked around and talked fishing while we waited for our numbers to be drawn. The numbers drawn jumped around ours, but near the end, I got drawn!!  ;D I went up proudly, but was quickly deflated by what was left on the table to choose from. A couple hats (not Maple Leaf, thus not permitted on my head) a coffee mug, a couple stainless steel fish bonkers and a ball point pen (that may or may not have been in the draw) was left. Remembering Xgolfman voicing interest several times in the bonkers, I snagged one. Judging by how he perked up from staring glumly at his soon to be confirmed loser ticket and keenly rubbed his hands together as I presented him with the bonker, I made a good choice.  ;D  I hope you get good use from it! If I kept it, I would have just got a sore back sooner as my vest is heavy enough as it is.

Also interested to try my baby blue bait box Rodney brought from DND. Wonder what colour it will turn once the procure hits it? Rodney, any further thoughts on my hooking up a pump to keep ghost shrimp alive in it?  ;D  Perfect size to keep about two dozen cozy in there.

Thanks again to all who came out and gave something back and helped make a difference.  8)

Well another very successful day to say the least and always a pleasure to meet to many members of this and other fishing forums. The photo's above tell the story of the event with maybe a record cleanup for the CVRCC BC Rivers day.

As usual so many people to thank that help pull of the day without a hitch but the real thanks has to go to the volunteers that give up a lovely Sunday to take hundred's of pounds of garbage off the Chilliwack Vedder River corridor. On behalf of the river she thanks you all. To those that threw it and dropped it there, shame on you, how can you sleep at night. Just before I head out for a morning fish, a couple of items of interest were:

Two fellows from Alberta were out fishing and saw the cleanup in progress and asked a volunteer what was going on. When they were told they dropped in to Thompson Park and gave two cheques to the CVRCC to the tune of $500 and $300. Said they were on a fishing trip and had no time to participate but certainly wanted to support our cleanup in some way. Lew recognized them in front of volunteers and we presented them with two Go Fish hats.

Don, Phil and I took the bottles and tins in right after the cleanup and in 45 minutes we had $89.40, thanks to all that took their time to pop them in the blue bags.

Special thanks to Daniel from DNE for the generous donations of bait boxes Rodney handed out.

Thats about it for now as I have to tie up some roe bags as only 45 minutes to the Maple Leaf Stealth is going to do some swimming.

Hope others will give us a report on the day. Once again thanks to all that took part in one way or another, it was certainly a very rewarding day in so many ways. ;D ;D ;D

It was great to meet a few of you. Chris and the gang did a great job putting on such a worthwhile event.
Big steel, I saw you, was about to say hi but I turned around and you were gone...fishing I guess ;) Maybe next time.
Thanks to all that made the day worthwhile.

Well it sounds like another succesful clean. As the wife had to work and I had the kids we decided to head to alco park for the rivers day there. It was also very successful and the kids had a blast at the fish pond where they could fish for trout. My 5 year old got a beauty which we ate for dinner. The look on his face when he got to bring in his first fish ever was pricless. He had to show everyone his fish and during dinner he never let us forget that he caught dinner.
