Well I bought a Shimano TLD-20 today, Im happy I got the reel :), the only downside was the cost :'( . So now all i have to do is get out there and find them, but hearing about declining numbers of sturgeon again I hope they dont close this fishery. Well If any of you know much about this reel could you give me your opinions, thanks. BF

Nice reel.. I used to use them.. But i switch them to a Tigars 16 2-speed... Trust me, you will never go back.... And here is the trick for you for spooling those big reel. 300 yds of 80-100 spectra line is alot but because of the diameter, you need to build up the base with mono. Just fill enough old mono then spool the spectra on top.. It should last you for couple years before respooling. good luck with your new reel.

I use a Penn 321 for sturg. Great reel, wish it had more line capacity though. When you fish from shore 200yrds isn't enough.

Bigfisher, I recently purchased all new TLD-20s for my boat and love them. I think they have a great drag and should last for years. I changed my sturgeon reels from the Penn 330's simply because I striped a worm gear on a large fish, plus I don't like the star drag as much as the lever drag.

You could have gotten it $100 cheaper on EBay. ::)
