Title: Chris' Volunteer work recognized
Post by: Lew Chater on July 17, 2006, 09:48:17 PM
Regular readers of this forum will know how much time Chris spends on volunteer work in various areas of community service. In over 30 years he has helped form the Fraser Valley Salmon Society, the Chilliwack Vedder River Cleanup Coalition, the Chwk River Action Committee. He volunteers at the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve, Minor Hockey, Minor Baseball, Chilliwack Softball and the Badminton Society.

Chris spends at least part of every day doing some kind of community service, as well as writing reports here on his fishing adventures and imparting good information to many new anglers.
Today the City of Chilliwack made Chris the first recipient of a new monthly award, the City of Chilliwack HEARTFELT VOLUNTEER.

It was a pleasure for several of us to see him receive the award presented by Mayor Clint Hames at a City Council meeting today. Well deserved and Congratulations Chris.
Hopefull the picture will attach to this showing Mayor Clint Hames, Chris' grandson Jamie and Chris.  (http://members.shaw.ca/Ichthos/Presentation2.jpg)

Wow you clean up pretty good  ;D Congrats and VERY well deserved. Keep it up. I hope allot of the younger generation read everything on here that has your name attached to it. You may not realize it now but I bet years from now when some of our younger generation fishermen are out there cleaning up the rivers and volunteering their time it has allot to do with reading what you wrote.

Infact last year you inspired me to volunteer my time. I started volunteering a couple times at my local hatchery and have been to quite a few cleanups. I have even donated money to a few local organizations. I just believe in what you write and I hope that when I am retired I can do atleast half of what you do.

Just remember everyone it always feels better to give than to recieve. Giving back is its own reward.

Without people like Chris could you imagine what our rivers would look like? Thanks to Chris and everyone else who puts back into what they get.

Hey that is cool! Congrats chris, you've done so much for the community for more years than most people on this board have been fishing!

I couldn't think of a more deserving person... Your efforts make for a great role model.

Cheers,
nicole
