I know that the general consensus is that chums are nasty fish... but I like catching them anyways...  never keep them... but then I rarely keep any socks or hos or springs for that matter.

So I was just wondering is anybody knew when they entered the Squamish river?  I wanna take a friend who is a beginner flyfisherman out there because there is more room.

personally, i think a fresh spring is the hardest fighting.

Love to watch the kid c&r them. This is the fishery I take my kids friends to to get them hooked on fishing!

 I was at the Mamquam last week. I hooked on pink, which i lost right before shore.. ...and i hooked on more fish wasnt sure what it was.

Dennisk, those chums are nuts, especially Squampton ones. But they are no Steelhead. Pound for pound the Steelhead is the sports model on our coast.

To answer your original question I have found them in the Squamish from mid October to the end of November. They are a  bit scarce at the beginning, and more than a bit scary at the end.

Yeah, and some parts of the river are very crowded, and a major gong show that at times puts the Vedder in prime Coho season or Fraser sockeye bars to shame.

I usually keep some clean ones and they are great in the smoker, and ok fresh in my opinion.
