Peg Leg set-up

I have a question. I want to go out to Peg Leg, but I'm not sure I have the right set-up for any serious fishing. I have a medium action rod with 15lb. line. It seems everyone is going after springs now that sockeye is closed. Would I need  beefier rod with heavier line?

How about BB'ing? I suppose the rod wouldn't handle as large a fish as a chinook? Or would it?

Actually Max, I'm quite a novice, that's why I asked. I've yet to be able to find time at all to go fishing this year.

In a way, you've answered my question for me. It seems that a bar fishing set-up is the way to go for Springs. I mean, I'm not going to waste my time going out there and then have fish after fish just turn away and break my line (or rod) over and over.  :P

Another thing. Most of us have BB'ed at one time or another. I'm not totally convinced that BB'ing is wrong. There are those that take it to the extreme though. I just didn't want to start that same discussion again.

Hey Max, you use the ABU 7000 (c3?) for barfishing? I've been thinking about that, maybe I'll get one or two this January for next year's barfishing. Chris' mooching reels are nice too, but still like the baitcasters for that kind of fishing. ;D

hey i have a similar question. Even though i have a medium action shimano convergence 10'6 rod 12-20 pound test with a Shimano Calcutta 400 with 20lb test line. would that set up be good enough for some springs?

Should be all right if you were float or drift fishing. I would doubt the Convergence will have the backbone to be casting 18 oz weights if you were barfishing.

So i guess if i wanna barfish around that area it would be recomended to get a heavy action rod like the one from trophy XL? also what lb line would be recomended.
