Are they still soft or hard when you dry them out?

The roe will be firm, but what your looking for is that the skin that holds the roe together is tough.  The skin is actually what is holding onto the hook.  But you are going to have to use a bait loop no matter how you cure it.  I put my hook through the skin then feed half the roe through the bait loop.  Holds on fine for me.  Just dry out the roe you have some more like another 8-10 hrs, then cut it up and put it in borax. Then it goes to the fridge and leave it for 2-3 days, it will firm up a bit.
Hope that that works out for you.  From now on though I would suggest that you just dry out the roe for upwards of 24hrs then cut it up, borax it then leave it in the fridge. Mine has always turned out real good this way. ;) ;)

I think Floater is using a brine cure. Drain your eggs and lay them out on paper towel to dry overnight. Should be OK. (I think !)
I did it didnt work the roe isant hard enough you cant hook it like i said.

You don't want it to be "hard". Biffchan has a good suggestion in using it as roe bags.
I know im gona do that either way but how do some people use the roe right on the hook cuz right now i cant hook mine on and its been drying in borax for liek 12 hours.

are you saying, you're trying to pierce the eggs on the hook? ???

you should be able to roll them gently between your thumb and index finger without exploding...bait loop should work as long as the skein is intact.

I hope that you get one floater.  But if we don't get some rain by the weekend, I think that everyone might have a hard time hooking one.  Went to my fav run on sat, and all the coho that were there had moved out and pinks moved in.  Didn't see a coho all day, in a run that always holds coho.  So I'll do the rain dance if I have to but we have to get some rain.  I'm sure that some people will get the odd one, don't know if that will be me or not.  Maybe it can be you!!!! ;D ;D

Yah big steal that would be nice. I have another question whats the best way to tie roe sacks onto your hook is there any other way but a bait loop and even then how does that work dont you crush the roe?

You don't tie your roe bag onto your hook. Insert the hook under the knot.

Floater don't worry about crushing the roe, It is only fishing line. Feed half the piece of roe through the bait loop, then just pull your line, and tighten the bait loop.  The line will cut into the roe a bit but that is ok, It won't cut the skin that is the important part.  But the way, do you know how to tie a bait loop????There a pain if you don't but once you've got them figured out it only take 5 seconds to tie on up real nice!!!!I'm sure that there is a diagram out there for you to learn from.  Maybe someone else out there can find that for you ;) I would but I gotta go.  Let me know how it works out for you.  Fishin assasin is right about the roe sack.  But for coho I think from my experience that boraxed roe, not in a sack is the best.  I love roe sacks for steelhead though.  Just personal preference I guess.  Whatever you are confident with!!!!

i like the bait loop method for the 'natural' look, but i will use roe sacks for faster water.

thanks for the link. just wondering, would the puff balls make the bait, float above the weight?
