Biggest Steelhead
« on: January 25, 2014, 08:02:31 PM »

I know similar threads have been made before, but since the steelhead year seems to be slightly slower than normal...

Anyone care to share a story or a photo of one of their biggest iron noggins?

One of the biggest I ever caught.

I had another huge one at the Vedder Crossing but it took me all the way down the corner and snapped by leader.

I've never weighed any of my more recent ones, but I've measured the length of a few that topped out at 42 inches.

This big Bulkley buck was 40 inches long and had a thick girth.

Got one that we estimated to be 20 pounds many many years ago on the Vedder but no camera.

Largest hatchery was 17.3, this year I would be happy with a 5 pounder, maybe tomorrow. ;D

I mainly fished the Nooksack growing up.  My personal biggest was 30-35 pounds.

My dad caught one that was pushing 50.  It was long enough to stick out on both side of the net, head and tail, of a good sized salmon net.

It probably would have been.  Definitely a river record.  Was wild though so he couldn't keep it.  Had plenty of witnesses though as it was near a bunch of guys bar fishing.  Of course a number of them are probably dead now as this was years ago.

biggest hatchery was weighed at Fred's years ago at just over 18lbs. Had I entered the season long derby I would have won because the winner went to a 17lb something

biggest wild could possibly be this one. I have tailed many in the 14-16lb range (weighed) and can hold them easily. This one kicked free of my hand twice and with kicks that weren't even all the strong. We figured it was in the same weight class as my largest hatchery

I don't tape or even remove my wild fish from the water whenever I can avoid it. A picture looks just as good or even better when the fish is allowed to stay in the water.
