Strange local custom

Can any one share the origins of this local custom?

Apparently if you are getting that "skunked again" feeling... one can appease the river gods by smacking the back of your head with a 3-4 oz bouncing betty while embedding  the hook into your forehead at the same time.

Seems a little extreme to me but I had the pleasure of meeting ... and fishing with two very well known posters today. and son ;)

 One of these fine gentlemen was kind enough to demonstrate this technique.  ;D

Is it the pain of the concussion in the back of the head that makes this work or the blood offering from the hook?

I'm such a newbie... I've got so much to learn... ;D

i think it has something to do with embeding the scent of fresh blood
in your wool as to attract  a more  preditory species of animal
and if taken from the frontal lobe all the better

I would appreciate receiving a little clarification on this little known custom: Is it self inflicted or do you have your partner do the work ?

this could be either or
depends are you willing to offer your own blood
or do you carry a spare goat or small child with you  ;)
but when the need arises one must draw blood from the closest scouce  ;)

Self inflicted... was some powerful voodo... he hooked up immediately ... after a short convalescence sitting dazed on the beach.  ;D ;D

My best buddy drove a 4/0 into his big toe right to the bend of the hook.  I had to tell him 3 things:
1. shorter leader.
2. don't forget to go barbless
3. don't wear sandals

Funny as hell later that day after some wobbly pops LOL
