Bar Rod Holder
« on: August 27, 2004, 10:21:08 PM »

Anyone have any plans or dimensions made up to make a good solid steel bar rod holder for fishing the Fraser? Thanks in advance as it's time for a new one. Email or PM would be great. :)

1" angle iron 5 ft. - Sharped to a point on the bottom end.

Take the other foot, and cross it about 1 ft above the bottom, for a "stomping" cross.

Take an empty bean can, and duct tape it about 2ft from top of angle iron.  Done :D

Here's a pic:
http://members.shaw.ca/fraservalleysalmonsociety/Bar%20rod%20holders.jpg
I used about 3 feet of 1x1x¼ angle iron
Cut a 2" piece of 2"pipe, welded a piece of 1½x¼ flat bar on one end for a cap. This will let water drain out the bottom and help prevent rust.
I cut a 1" piece of 2" pipe and split it for the top of the holder.
Check the length of the butt on your rod to see how far down you want to mount the bottom piece of 2" pipe. Obviously you don't want the reel to touch the rod holder.
I don't use a hammer or anything to put up the rod holder, I just 'wiggle' it down into the gravel.
I use a circular motion, try it and you'll get the hang of it right away  :)
Hope this is what you're kinda looking for.
Cheers,
Buckeye
