Chehalis Closure
« on: November 03, 2009, 12:12:31 PM »

Folks, further to our recent action on the Stave river, a similar set of circumstances has developed at the Chehalis hatchery outlet.

Over the last several years and as a result of large flood events, the Chehalis mainstem has established a new channel on the east side of the flood plain which has isolated flow from the hatchery. The new watercourse  is now an extension of the hatchery outlet which had been closed (previously posted boundary signs located at the confluence of the outlet and the mainstem) when the river flowed in its  original location.

Due to this change and pursuant to section 37(4) of the Fishery (General) Regulations, DFO will be establishing a new boundary one hundred meters downstream from its present location in order to protect salmon concentrated in the new hatchery outlet. The new boundary is consistent with other facilities where fishing is not allowed in hatchery outlets or other collection facilities. The new boundary signs will be in place by this weekend and a Fishery Notice will be sent out shortly.

Please call or email me if you need further information.

Discourage the snagging that goes on there.

I think they are talking about right near the Hatchery where people were snagging fish in a foot of water or less.
