Title: Stave / Ruskin Picnic Site Closed (Again)
Post by: Blood_Orange on February 20, 2024, 04:25:12 PM
News to me, though certainly not "new news":

The picnic and parking area on the east side is completely closed until Nov 2024. I drove out there last week and wished I'd known beforehand. The west side was crowded so I wound up going elsewhere.

You can still park on the east side of Hayward St, just past the turnoff to Keystone. You'll have to wade up through the marsh but it's a nice walk.

Is there anywhere to park on the west side at all anymore?

You really need to go have a look. Anywhere not covered by a no parking sign and where your vehicle isn't partially on the pavement should be ok.

When I went last week, there were a few vehicles parked by the concrete blocks across from the trailer park. I didn't look to see if the "No Parking" signs were up there or not, but in the past they only put up signs there during salmon season. It's been a couple of years since I've parked a ways away from the river, but there's some parking next to the park at the top of the hill, as well as some on the main road across from the park. Signage might have changed. Fairly certain there's parking on the road down low, just after the trailer park on your right.

If you go up, let us know what you see! It seems to change year to year.

I have been up there this year and last. There are spots along Wilson Road to park a car. The No Parking signs mostly cover the curves and spots where there are not adequate shoulder space to park a vehicle. Not enough room for dozens of cars. There is a parking lot past the dam on Wilson Road at the head of the Railway Trail though that's a bit of hike back.
