Where can I get a Chinook smoked?

Hi everyone,

Caught a spring today, and I want to have it smoked... any suggestions on where I should take it to have it done?
Is getting one spring (weighs mid-high teens) smoked economically reasonable?

I live in Vancouver, on Cambie Street.

try st jeans cannery by the flying beaver. they do a great job and are farily inexpensive

i second on st.Jeans... They made very good products.. Candy salmon i like the most.

St Jean's Cannery in Nanaimo has a depot @ the South Terminal and West coast Tackle is also a depot for them-that's what the above posts are referring to.

I've used St Jean's in the past and found their product to be very ordinary, and customer service to be bad beyond belief-so I can't recommend them at all-not in a thousand years don't get me started. ::)

The Good News for Vancouverites is that Classic Smokehouse 750 Terminal Ave  604-684-2850 does a fabulous job, are fast, friendly helpful and reasonably priced.

Best to take a sport caught fish in the afternoon for whatever reason that's when they do intake, access from the back of the building.

There are a couple other ones people like-Yoshi's in North Van and Bruces and Ocean Master in Maple Ditch but they all involve driving over bridges or freeways or both it's your call.

Another sales pitch for Yoshi's.  I had some sockeye and chum done there last year and it was excellent.  They only do cold smoke but if thats what you are interested in, check it out.

Buy a smoker and do it yourself.  Nothing beats catching and smoking your own fish. Plus, if you keep paying for smoked fish, after a couple years, you could own your own smoker.

Yep, Sam's right (good memory, Sam!).  I took it to Classic on your recommendation, Sam, and they were great there.  Took me for a tour, let me try all their different types of salmon, and it was close by a well, which was nice.

Did the maple nuggets.  Just brought in a 16lber, so didn't diverisfy.  Next time I'll try some of the other variations.

I've heard that Bruce's market in Maple Ridge is good.  Tried some double smoke a friend of mine had done there yesterday and it was very tasty!!!
