I was down at Fraser river Foreshore park yesterday for a picnic, and snapped a few sunset pics while there.  No fish finning/jumping etc

The thing is, I also have about 20 or more of the same shot that didn't turn out as well.  Just like when the pros shot film, they would go through a roll of film to get one good shot.  Now we amateurs can do the same thing, since it only costs storage space on the hard drive to keep the "less good" photos.

in other words "auto"

No.  Auto was giving me too much light in the areas I wanted dark.  I tried various and was most happy with shutter speed up at 2500, which was higher than the camera wanted for the light it was reading.  I knew I wanted to keep the sun from over burning, so it wasn't a big deal.  I also did a few with exposure lock based on auto, into the sun.  They were less than good too

Yeah, just that others may not understand that are trying to learn.  People take what they read as the "truth" sometimes.

I believe so.  As long as they are AF lenses it should be fine.

That's what I liked about the new rebel, I could preserve my investment that I had in a 70-210 lens.
