Favorite Lake Fishing Technique....
« on: May 26, 2005, 06:02:11 PM »

Ok so since the local lakes are stocked once again here is the big question......

What is your favorite lake fishing technique and rig....??

Mine is with a flot..... a LONG leader..... a couple spit shots  about 6 inches away from the hook..... and then the hook... usually the gamagatsu.... baited with some powerbait...... I know the bait floats but the weigh just above it usually can keep it down long enough.....

So whats yours... ;D

if I was  fishing  from the shore, I would do what you do on the smaller lakes maybe,  fly fishing is more fun, but not always productive.  Larger  lakes, or any lake, trolling is the best way to catch fish unless you are a sharp fly  guy.     peace

I have a question about float fishing in lakes. I usually use a small balsa slip float with a bobber stop on the line and just cast it out there. How do I adjust the bobber stop to the right place so I get the bait down to where it should be? Do I first try to find out where the bottom is and go from there?

Granade  8)

Casting spinners and flies (different rods), or fixed bait.

I'm really liking casting flies from a boat right now, but when the wind picks up, there's nothing like a worm and some split shot.

Trial and error. Watch the successful fishermen as to the depth

Nothing wrong with baitfish with a fly rod. Oops! Did I say that out loud? ;D Simply put a small spinning reel on, and fish away. The only disadvantage is that you may end up with a sore wrist with this setup.

If you are looking for a light spinning rod, you can always have a builder build up one with a 3 to 5wt fly blank.

so you can cast even though the guides are alot smaller..... i am going to try it...

as for getting one built do you know of a builder that would build it at a resonable price?

i love using light tackle so this would be totally cool....
