Do I put these straight onto a hook?

Yes. You can thread it onto the hook until it only embeds the eye of the hook. Or, you can thread it onto the hook, push it all the way up until it sits on top of the eye, and accompany it with a small piece of wool through the egg loop.

Or you can thread the jensen egg onto the leader to just ahead of the hook eye.

Do you guys ( and girls) find that the egg size makes a difference.  I have only used them a few times and had no luck but then I never really worked at it.  I have used the 020 size.

#2 Jensen is my favourite. I always return to it. Sometimes put two on. I thread leader through egg(s) and have them sit just above the eye. They seem to stay on better than if you thread the eggs through the hook.

I've used Jensens with some success in the past. Usually it's my number two or three go to after roe or wool during steelhead season.  Terry:  do you thread the eggs with a sewing needle and then tie on your hook?  I've started doing that because I find that when I threaded them over the eye of the hook, it tends "rip" the egg more and not stay on as well.

I always feed mine with  a needle.  They stay better that way.  Have also taken to using a small bead as a bumper at the hook.  They last much longer (now if I could make that shorter by having more fish on them, I'd be pretty happy )

I use the same method as Dragon Speed for the same reasons but don't bother with the bead. Egg stays on well.

Do you not find that in higher current areas, the egg tends to pulled down onto the shaft?

Consider this:
1. Slide a tiny red sequin on the line just above your hook.
2. Then put the end of the leader through a needle.
3. Then run the needle through the Jenson Egg, and slide the Jenson Egg down to the sequin, right in front of the hook.
4. Put yarn in the egg loop, as per normal.

I'm not sure it actually hooks more fish, but if you simply get tired of the egg sliding down the hook alot, you might want to at least consider this, because the sequin will mostly keep the egg from coming off the rig.
