the thing also is that this site has been up for somewhere around 20 years now. Almost every somewhat general question has been asked in the past and can be found in google.
The only new thread coming out would be the fishing report for salmon/steelhead for the season and considering that there is no steelhead thread, the salmon thread in the fall is the only thing to gain traction.
Also helps that salmon is #1 in popularity by a mile and a good chunk of people only fish for salmon and not steelhead.
Maybe breaking up threads such as different run timings could get some traction, but that in reality only falls onto the Capilano for bluebacks/Ambleside which not many people fish compared to the vedder. Also doesn't help that the Capilano bluebacks/Ambleside has a super shallow learning curve, and as an Ambleside fisher myself, you see the same people there every weekend so ultimately a report is not needed for that fishery moreso.

the solution to the lack of threads or posts is to post something.

I was curious so I went on his Youtube page and saw that he has a new video up promoting fishing in Trumpistan and I will be removing myself from Fishing with Rod. I remember defending him from racist crap 20 years ago so I am a little sad to leave but, really, Trumpistan?

I noticed the BnR video as well Gord. I haven't watched it.  But it's about making a living. No one down in Oregon has likely noticed the controversy. I hope any upcoming contract renewals here are unaffected. I only say that as I am an empathetic person & had some similar experiences many years ago though they lacked the exploitive overtones.

You could send Rod a PM & ask he make your user account inactive. If he ever signs back on and reads his mail he may do it! That's about the only way I know. But you will miss all those gaming infomercials scattered around the various posts! What a shame!

Take care and see you on the other side.

Most of the online fishing forums are gone. One wonders how much longer this site will be around. The YouTube channel continues on with new videos albeit recycled videos despite the controversy. Just ignoring the controversy without a proper rebuttal makes one wonder if the accusations have merit.

As far as the controversy goes, what exactly is it? I have seen nothing substantive and merely regurgitated 3  or more times from posts subsequently deleted. We are unlikely to know what if anything happened as if it is 'settled', it will be done between lawyers behind closed doors. Get used to it.

I get your aversion for all things Trumpistan, @Gord, but I suggest it's OK to cut the guy some slack.

It appears that BnR Tackle has been a sponsor of FWR for a number of years, long before politics clouded everything. Is a self employed guy expected to cut loose any US sponsors over the politics of the last 16 months?

And Oregon leans Blue...

Is a consumer expected to support a business if it doesn't align with his core values? Really, there should be no expectations on either side. If a business decides to support US products or services, that's their choice to make. Likewise if someone like GordJ no longer wants to support said business, then that's his choice too, and as an individual consumer really doesn't have much leverage other than that.

I 100% feel where GordJ is coming from. I've taken efforts to avoid US based products now and am no longer considering recreational travel to the US for the time being. I'm not quite at the level of cancelling memberships but if that's someone else's line in the sand, I get it...

No, there is no expectation to do that.

I thought perhaps GordJ wasn’t aware that BnR was a sponsor of FWR and Rod’s fishing trip and subsequent video was for business, not recreational, reasons. At least that’s my presumption having no skin in the game…

To me, there’s a difference between me as a consumer not buying American-made goods, and being disappointed that a businessman has American customers. As a consumer, I can choose to purchase Canadian-made goods in lieu of American-made, but I respectfully challenge the belief that a Canadian businessman should not have American customers where he is contracted to promote their business. Most consumers have alternatives to American-made goods. A businessman may not have the luxury of cutting loose American customers.

Of course we all have our lines in the sand. I was just challenging the assumptions of GordJ’s stick that he was drawing the line with.

But yes, GordJ, and all the rest of us, will do what we gotta do.
