Ok, so I'm looking for good fish news, and one good sign I see is that at least some herring stocks are up this year:  https://www.ptleader.com/stories/after-two-years-record-herring-spawning-whitens-area-waters-again,68531

But East Coast of Vancouver Island is maybe not doing so good:  https://www.mypowellrivernow.com/27214/herring-moratorium-supporters-come-out-in-droves-for-protest/

Looks like COVID-19 has caused cancellation of the commercial herring fishery on the central coast:  https://www.hakaimagazine.com/news/coastal-community-lockdowns/, which could be a good thing if it leads to a bump up in baitfish stocks

Also, not herring, but did y'all see this story about surveys of 1st year salmon in the open pacific?  Looks promising:  https://www.timescolonist.com/news/local/scientists-score-salmon-bonanza-on-pacific-expedition-1.24108081

Anyway, if anyone has info or observations about herring spawning this year, especially are they up or down from previous years, I'd love to hear about it.

Big numbers of herring means lunch to so many species in the marine world. Salmon being one ...
Thus more herring should equal more chinooks  ( salmon )
Howe Sound even has gotten improved herring numbers in recent past.

Other good news has been the efforts of the Squamish Streamkeepers to re-introduce herring to False Creek, replicating their success from the town of Squamish

Between January and March I walked by false creek on my way to work and I often saw many cormorants and seals diving in the water, usually in a small area. I can only assume that there are schools of fish that they are feeding on and I think they might be herring.
