Islander steelheader maintenance
« on: November 17, 2019, 10:24:14 AM »

Are you guys buying the reel maintenance kit from islander? or using other grease and oil that you can find locally and possibly cheaper than the reel maintenance kit islander sells.

Been using Super Lube multi purpose synthetic oil and Super Lube synthetic grease for all my reels for quite a few years....high quality lubricant that lasts forever, has easy to use tips on the tubes and its not hard to find...had tried all the products put out by the reel manufacturers "including quantum, daiwa and abu " and nothing compared to this stuff for me.

I googled super lube and didn't find a local supplier. Where might you guys be getting this stuff from?

acklands grainger?
I believe I got mine from Commercial Solutions in Richmond (closed now I believe.  The closest one is in Coquitlam.)
Commercial Solutions also sells bearings.

And yes, Super Lube is good stuff.  Gun oil from Canadian Tire should work just fine and cheaper too.

Best of luck.

mikes reel repair carries it, dont go with gun oil its much too thick and slow i know from experience super lube is thinner and will be much faster lubricant in your bearings.

I think I'll wait a few weeks to contact commercial. Don't want them in a dither with the phone ringing off the hook! :-)
Thanks!

Hey if you like hot sauce
Try automatic transmission fluid
You can buy by the liter instead of by the fluid oz.
Works just as well
Cheers
