As in the past our Chilliwack Minor Baseball group will be out at one of the many satellite locations.
Looking forward to the educational and bonding experience this provides for them early.

Great to have you and the ball players taking part each year.

Help us clean up the Fraser River!

Once again we are teaming up with Woodtone to host the 12th Annual Fraser River Cleanup. The event will take place at the end of Gill Road, in Chilliwack next Saturday, March 23rd from 10am-1pm.

Bring some warm layers, a pair of sturdy boots, and a reusable beverage container. If you have your own gloves you can bring those along—otherwise we’ll have gloves, bags, pickers, and other safety equipment to assist with the cleanup.

There will be a volunteer appreciation BBQ provided by Restaurant 62 and a prize draw to show our thanks for the hard work and dedication of those who come out. In addition, Ocean Ambassadors Canada will be there to teach us about our connection to water and Wildlife Preservation Canada will bring news about local wildlife and the Western Painted Turtle which is being reintroduced to the area.

Over the past 11 years we have removed 125 tonnes of garbage from the river! We look forward to seeing you this year, rain or shine, to make a difference and give back to the river that gives us so much.

The cleanup would not be possible without the generous support of our sponsors. Thank you to Kal Tire, Chilliwack Minor Baseball, Cabela’s, Restaurant 62, Gordon Food Service, Timbro Contracting, City of Chilliwack, Chilliwack Water Store, Ocean Ambassadors Canada, Bio Central, Great River Fishing, The Home Depot, Inner Vision Yoga, Eastern Valley Toilets, Wildlife Preservation Canada, Glad, Big K Clothing, Fraser Valley Salmon Society, Envision Financial, Chilliwack Bottle Depot, First Class Waste/Alpine Valley Disposal, Starbucks Coffee, HUB International, Woodtone, and Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC.

Welcome, Julia!

In late February we welcomed Julia Pepler to our team as Digital Content Coordinator. Julia has taken on the important role of relaying our updates, news, and stories to you. She received her Bachelor of Design in Communication and is excited to put her graphic design and writing skills towards the Fraser Riverkeeper mission of ensuring swimmable, drinkable, fishable water for all.

Thanks to Julia, you'll receive more frequent updates and news via social media and our blog. Join our conversations surrounding water—tag #swimdrinkfish or #mywatermark on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram to get in on the Swim Drink Fish movement. We look forward to hearing about your water adventures, successes, and stories and sharing our updates with you.

We’re hiring.

In addition to Julia’s new role, we are searching for a passionate Vancouver Water Monitoring Coordinator to join our team. The focus of the role will be to manage our citizen-science program full-time, starting this April. Candidates should have a combination of technical skills and community engagement skills that meet the demands of community-based water monitoring activities. A love for water stewardship and an interest in a variety of water recreation activities is key. If you have water monitoring experience or know someone that might fit the bill, check out swimdrinkfish.ca/careers to learn more about the posting and apply.
Get involved!

We are always looking for volunteers to help us realize our Swim Drink Fish mission of making swimmable, drinkable, fishable water available to all. We are looking for folks to join our citizen-science initiative as part of our Vancouver Water Monitoring Program and to support our community outreach endeavours at events this summer.

If you have the skills or desire to help out in any of these areas we’d love to hear from you and get you involved. Sign up at fraserriverkeeper.ca/volunteer and we’ll be in touch soon!

Tag along with us as we amp up this spring season for a busy and fulfilling summer on the water.

Until next time,

Lauren Hornor

Thanks to all that took part and to stsfisher for bringing out 40 of his players and parents as they cleaned up the Jesperson Boat launch area. Pictures on my FB page and here is a Vancouver province story and video. https://theprovince.com/news/local-news/helping-hands-roll-up-sleeves-pay-it-forward-at-fraser-river-cleanup/wcm/0155cefb-7f3a-4b62-ad11-b67e5547a658

Another great event put on by a very dedicated group. As odd as it sounds our boys really do have a lot of fun at this event, we look forward to it every year. Interested to see the numbers this season, as we actually think Jespersen was in better shape than the previous years. Maybe these cleanups are working by providing the awareness?

Good job and thanks to everyone involved! It is truly amazing what can be accomplished by just a few people! But I think we may have a more pressing issue! ;D Where are these 98 grizzly that weigh over a 1000kgs a piece? (as mentioned on Fraser Riverkeepers site Chris linked to)
