When does Herring season start? Also is there any accessible places to fish from shore in the lower mainland?

Member joshuag232 posted a fair bit about pier fishing from herring in the lower Fraser.

Do a search for "Herring" and his name; you'll get a ton of hits...pun intended :)

I spent over 40 years looking for the kelp beds off of Herring Island up towards Hope! Then I looked at the sign this year and it is Herrling Island! Opps!  ??? 8)

The herring boats are cruising around Parksville  East Coast VI.
Herring season not open yet. But apparently any day now.

Finally we hit the jackpot!!!  👍

Edited to add:

Herring fishing was very spotty but a lot of fun.  There wasnt nearly the same amount of sealions and birds..... maybe because of the lack of fish.

Anyhow what a lovely time on the water.

They were biting on a 6 hook jig available at any fishing store.

What a great time.  Maybe there should be a herring sports fishery?
We could have guided herring flyfishing tours.  Fly in and fly out.  🤣
