Squamish river: Two guys in the white Subaru
« on: January 28, 2019, 06:19:29 PM »

Just wanted to throw out a huge sarcastic thanks a bunch to you two.

Left us stuck in the snow 25 km up the fsr yesterday.
Walked by while we were trying to get out and said they wanted to fish next run if we didn't get out they would come back before they left....

Well couldn't get out so I walked 15 min to where their vehicle had been to find tire tracks.

Completely classless. Ended up walking over 5 km just before dark in sub zero temps Before luckily seeing two nice guys wheeling that helped out. Could have been much worse and had to walk the other 20km in the dark .

Never I mean never leave people stranded in the wilderness .

Should be embarrassed in your selves.

That happened to me too back in 2006 while fishing the Vedder. It was mid January and an unsuspected down fall hit mid river where I got stuck in a snow bank. I was by myself and couldn't push my car  while trying to turn my steering wheel and I would say a dozen fishers passed by (4 of them walking out of the bush getting ready to leave)...Not one offered to help even after I pleaded with them. Luckily an older gentleman driving home from work noticed me struggling, pulled over and steered my car while I pushed it out of the snow. He couldn't believe the disregard of people saying that 40 years ago it would have been unthinkable not to help a fellow human being.

I guess times have changed and I feel bad that you went through that...I definitely would have helped.

It is really weird for such behavior.
I was tolled out of snow in Mountain adams and in Merritt by strangers. My car was pushed off the slippery ice once in Joffre Lake and once on Pattullo Bridge. Deeply appreciated people met in the road. But I also remind myself do not try in uncertain snowy road condition

The upper Squamish is pretty remote this time of year. Should always be prepared with chains or shovels Etc. That said there is unwritten rules about helping people in the bush. My brother and I would have been in for a long night on that same river when his fuel pump quit had a guy not stopped to help us as it was getting dark. Pretty sure he was one of the last ones to come out of there that night.

Sorta sounds like it’s the locals (Subaru guys) saying F you, don’t come back and fish here. You flew here I grew here type of thing...  :(

More like it is just city idiots as that is most of the people up there at this time of the year. The road is awful right now with huge ruts and pot holes so deep you smash your head on the roof of your truck when you crawl through them. Yet you will see people up there in there cars. No wonder people get stuck. That said, I still would have pulled them out. Would have given them cupcakes but I still would have pulled them out.

Sometimes people make poor decisions..we've all done it. Other times, it's just bad luck. No one's laying blame, just disappointed in the display of apathy.

Rather than slinging out zhit such as "they are to blame" or "I wouldn't have headed out". How about telling us whether if you would help.
I know I would.

ohhh I would have helped for sure.  :)

I just think it's a pretty bad idea to head out somewhere unprepared. Then go on a forum and whine cause you have some sand in your vageegee.
