Anyone ever seen or heard of kokanee being caught in cultus lake /

Supposed to b ...but never caught one. Lots of bull trout and cutthroat trout.

Yes, there are kokanee in Cultus Lake.

Used to be Coho in there that didn't go down the river. I heard them referred to as Cohokanee.

There was a magazine write-up on them years ago.

There are smallmouth bass in Cultus now. Saw the provincial notice at Chilliwack Dart and Tackle. Guys that do the pike minnow eradication caught some and reports of bass up to 5 lbs.

Thanks for the replies. A friend and his son caught three kokanee there last week. I was surprised as I didn't think there were any in Cultus.

With climate change this lake is going to turn into a bass lake, should dam it off, Give up on the extinct cultus lake sockeye and move on..

Surprisingly, they were actually coho that swam down from the Vedder hatchery, up sweltzer creek, and resided in the lake. Most of the coho were hatchery fish. It's a very strange concept, but ever since they've put the fence in year round on sweltzer creek at the lake the coho fishery disappeared (because they couldn't get in).

So true Dan.  Another example of man attempting to improve on nature by installing a counting fence for juvenile sockeye that actually decreased the genetic diversity of another species. I'm pretty sure you could add migrating Bulltrout and Rocky Mountain whitefish to this list as well.
