Gas Theft
« on: April 25, 2018, 10:12:23 PM »

Launched at Stave Lake this morning. Got back to the truck only to discover my 3/4 of a tank of gas some how disappeared. I thought the read out on the dash stating 0 KM to empty was wrong but sure enough a couple k's down the road and I ran out of gas. After a quick inspection there was a clean hole drilled into the bottom of my tank. Drained all the fuel and could not top it off either. Just brutal.

I saw one other vehicle being towed out of there but never thought anything about it until I ran out of gas. It was an older full size van.

That sucks but not surprised given the price of gas these days. I expect to hear more of gas thieves in the future.

That is shame. If this guy got caught, must force him to drink all the gas.

Years ago I holed my gas tank on a rock and and I remembered hearing that soap could stop a leaking tank.  Sure enough I rubbed the gash with bar soap and it stopped the leak.  Since then I usually have a small bar of soap in the trunk.

Good trick! I will have to put a bar in the kit.
Shame you can't go anywhere nowadays without someone taking advantage of your hard work.

What ever happened to "Thou shall not steal?"
Your gas was stolen. $ gone.
A tow to get gas tank repaired. $ gone
( can they plug the hole? Weld it ? Replace tank? ) $ gone
Sorry that happened to you.
Just look at the tv news...van runs down people...murderer / raper arrested some 80 yr old ex cop in California, famous comedian Crosby found guilty, car dealership caught up selling repairs that are not needed...on & on it goes...plus this story.
Really it's total selfishness & evil.
Just be happy this bone head who did this does not live next door to you.

Add in: Fridays tv news told of more vehicles getting their gas tanks drilled & gas stolen.
Gas tank replacement $1000. ICBC $300 deductible. Insurance pays $700 of the $1000.

That boat launch has a bad reputation. For years there were low lifes that hung around there, watched you launch and head up the lake, then smash your windows out, take the address off your insurance papers, then proceed to clean out your house cause they knew you’d be gone for awhile. Always take your insurance papers with you...
Sorry to hear about your gas  >:(
