While the commercial boats were going hard at it in the main channel of the Fraser, we sheltered ourselves to the quiet piece of water around London's Landing once again.
We arrived around low tide late this morning, which was perfect for some float fishing action. Once everything was setup, the girls were into fish right away. Float bobbed up and down right after each cast. Chub, pikeminnow, shiners came up and kept me busy the whole time.
This photo was my favorite today:
Notice the great blue heron standing in the background? The area is decorated with wildlife. Just before I got the camera out in time, there were actually two herons standing and hunting. One flew away when I turned the camera on.
It's not unusual to see heron and eagles hunting for small fish near the tidal flat around Steveston during low tide.
Observing the catches. Some big shiners we had. A good way to identify the type of habitat where the fish resides is by observing its body shape. We always make sure each kid understand why a sculpin has a flat abdomen and its eyes are on top of its head, while a shiner perch has a , thinner and broader body.
Not a bad day indeed, i just wish I had a chance to fish with the float more than the kids.
