Capilano Mouth July 26th
« on: July 27, 2004, 07:12:34 PM »

Me and my freind robert fished near ambleside for coho yesterday.  We got there around 5 a.m and fished for a while.  On Roberts 5 or 6th cast he hooks a fish.  As he was about to land it i tell him that it was a hatchery.  Obviously we were expecting a coho.  And then he took it into the shallow water and to our surprise it was a small PINK.  (2-4lbs) We relested.

It could have been a jack spring as there are lots of them in the Cap. I believe the Island rivers get the pinks this year. Maybe it is a stray. I have caught the odd pinks in the Cap, but only in the years that the pinks run in the lower mainland rivers.

Have heard of many jack springs off ambleside lately...most likely was a jack as I cant imagine a pink in there this year and both species do have spotted tails (although pinks have the spots that are more elongated oval shapes as opposed to circular).
