Here is a great book for past fishing in BC with a few pictures. Lots of sections on steelhead and on page 81-83 talk about the vedder river.  Goes thought almost all of our local systems and what they were like back then and how and what they used to fish them.

Haha!  Before my time ... I started fishing the Vedder in 1960 and probably met George in the mid sixties.  The Vedder was crowded even back then in Dec and Jan and nearly barren of anglers in March and April, but full of fish :)

Most likely a centerpin on a greenheart or cane rod.

it looks to be no longer than 10ft & perhaps shorter. They didn't have mono-filament then so the line is some sort of braid -I don't know if dacron was around then & the reel is likely one of the Hardy Silex's of the day.

Looks cold and it's been a long time since I saw someone wearing a Fedora while steelheading.
