Fishing in Calgary
« on: August 05, 2016, 05:44:36 PM »

Hi all, Finally got holidays, so I'm going to visit family in Calgary, gonna take my travel rod with me and hopefully get a little fishing in. Question is...where shall I go? any Ideas... I know there's the Bow River.

Hey,
Bow is fishing really well, if your spinning bring some small coho spoons. If fly, streamers are getting whacked pretty good, some dry action evenings or cloudy weather.
As far as below glenmore dam with worms, illegal , has been for quite some time.
Anywhere on bow south of city is good.
If you need a couple quick walk in spots pm me.

Been a few years for me as well - I used to head to Little Bow Provincial Park for quieter fishing outside the city.... might try this site:  http://www.albertafishingguide.com/

Oooh, Brown trout! never caught one of those before! would love to add one to my fishing logs.
I'm bringing my Eagle claw spin/fly rod, so I'm ready for anything. Any particular flies or streamers
I should bring?

Speaking of fishing logs, anyone use online fishing logs? I used to use Fish arc, but it's doesn't work anymore. it was the best one out there. Now I use fishswami.

we have been pounding streamers the last couple weeks. White is clearly the winner.
Big heavy stuff, wrap ours with lead also with lead eyes, about 3 -4 inches long.
Strip as fast as you can. The tops of any fast runs is best. Got a bunch last night, rainbows are tanks right now, 1 brown was about 6-7lbs fat as heck.
My kids are on the river regularly with their buddies, mostly throwing small, copper , chrome spoons,  Panther martins, 3-4" floating raps etc.
Love it when weather is a bit rainy keeps the crowds away.
