On the Fraser River mainstem, the salmon swim as far, but can't get past, Overlander Falls in Mount Robson Provincial Park.    That's a distance of approx 1,100 km.

(that 1,100 km is real rough and is road distance from Richmond to Overlander Falls, via Prince George. In actuality it's probably closer to 1,200)

Google some images and facts about Overlander and Rearguard falls and the chinook. Simply amazing.
