The Innovative Fly Fisher Forum is hosting the 1st Canadian Youth National Fly Fishing Championships in the Maple Ridge, British Columbia on Sept 19 & 20, 2015.
Young Fly fisher from all across Canada are invited to register and participate at this year's championship. This event is a celebration of fly fishing and a great opportunity for young fly fishers to learn through the sharing of information and mentoring by their fellow anglers, volunteers, and coaches that will be on hand to offer assistance and their expertise.
The 4 sessions of this year’s championship will be held on 2 lake venues and 2 river venues within the Fraser Valley. Competitors should already know how to fly fish and have a good understanding of knots and casting. Competitors are also responsible for providing their own waders, fly fishing equipment, nets, and flies.
Sanctioning of this event has been approved by Fly Fishing Canada as a Level 2 Competition (500 point scale). Points earned at this National Championship will be applied to the competitor's points that are recorded on the NPR, which will track and rank the youth competitors across Canada.

Details about this year’s competition:- Competitors must be 13-18 years old at some point during the year of the competition (2015)
- Entry fee: $40.00 per person (transportation and 2 boxed lunches are included with entry fees)
- Registration for this year’s event is based on a first-come, first-served basis
- Maximum number of participants: 24 competitors
- Registration closes at 6:00pm on September 7, 2013
- There is a total of 4 sessions of competition (2 sessions per day) within the championship
- Each session consists of 3 hours of angling
- Stillwater sessions will be fished from drifting boats
- Floating and sinking devices are not allowed (strike indicators and splitshot)
- Eligible fish species: Rainbow Trout, Cutthroat Trout, Bull Trout, Dolly Varden, White Fish and Northern Pike Minnow
- All fishing must be performed with a single, barbless fly, and on a catch & release basis
- Fly Fishing Canada’s Competition Rules for 2012 apply
- Competition Venues have a no-fish-policy, for all competitors and their associates, that is in affect starting 8:00am on September 14, 2015
