« on: December 23, 2014, 09:53:24 PM »

How can I tell if the blank or built up rod is authentic
The sticker may say Sage withe the appropriate model, but is this good enough ?

 Any advise is greatly appreciated

That's a bit of a tough question. For Sage the colour is usually a giveaway. Their blank colours are quite unique and Be very high quality. A home spray job should look like cr@p comparatively.

A quality builder will often mimic the wraps and epoxy application of the factory when doing repairs. Usually they would need to reduce the quality level.
Backyard builders are often sloppy, with unpacked wraps and epoxy that is lumpy, football shaped, or has bare thread showing.
Unfortunately I have seen many high cost factory rods that look like they were built by a 5 year old.
Other than workmanship the components must be correct for the model. No low cost carbon fibre reel seats, quality guides, etc. I don't know the details for specific Sage models but a Google image search should yield results.

inside of the ferule there was typically a dot or lines to distinguish which rod it is. this used to be the case on the sage brown blanks  that was 10 years ago now.

Just because you have a pin rod doesnt mean you know how to fish it.....
