Ceramic Bearings

Just ordered a new reel for light gear. It already comes with 10 bearings, does it make much difference to upgrade to the Abec 7 ceramic bearings?

I got a very good deal for the reel, so I don't mind spending an extra $70 to modify it...if it will improve it noticeably.

The standard "High Performance Corrosion Resistant" bearings from Abu Garcia in a reel of that price range is quite decent. You will get an improvement if you upgrade to ceramic, but it will be little difference in my opinion.

Ceramic bearings themselves won't make that much difference-cleaning the race, taking the shields off and using something like TG's Rocket Fuel makes more difference in terms of casting.

Ive ordered ceramic kits for both of my better reels...apparantly they require no lubrication.

For ball bearings, isnt any premium reel specific oil and grease sufficient? Ive got the abu oil and synthetic grease already. I even bought some reel butter?

But i do hear alot about the rocket fuel...is this the stuff from the UK? Is it really that much better?

Only time I would oil them is if there too fast, otherwise run ceramic dry.

For steel I use the Abu Garcia Oil (White Bottle)

Ceramic bearings are awesome!
My Abu C3 increased casting distance by 50% over clean stock steel ones.
Use them dry, clean them often. The only downsides are that they are noisy when casting and can be too fast.

All this bearing talk is tempting me to get some ceramics for my new (in the mail) Daiwa Lexa 300; got it for a sweet deal on eBay.

I probably will just get one for the side frame and one for the spool, and put the old side frame one into the cast control in place of the bushing.

I use Hot Sauce reel oil that doubled spinning time on my CP . Had to first get rid of the original grease.
