Fraser River Mouth, August 23rd 2014
« on: August 24, 2014, 10:22:25 AM »

Went out there with a buddy again yesterday. Firstly, the boat launch area was a bit of a gong-show with obviously inexperienced and one otherwise effected, individual who took way to much time getting his boat out and causing a back-up of six/seven boats and even after getting his boat out blocked the way for the rest of us in getting our trailers in to pull our boats out.

Phew, OK rant over, on to fishing. ;D I counted approximately 150 boats out there when we arrived and the ocean was flat and awesome. The fishing was tough though, as we only managed 3 sox in the box after fishing from 10-4:30. We lost a few (4), and missed a couple of bites. According to the sounder, there weren't many fish around in the deeper area farther out, so we concentrated in the relative shallows 100-200 ft to get our fish, while most of the fleet seemed to try working the water farther out. We didn't see many caught but the ones we did see were in tight. When we were out in the deeper water we saw no one get any. Two of our fish were starting to color slightly so maybe they had been there awhile and one of those had a kype. It doesn't seem like the big schools of late run fish have made it to the mouth yet. Maybe today will be better, but I'm taking the day off today to do some family stuff. Hopefully someone posts a report about today out there.

Was out there on a friends boat Saturday morning and the bite was on early from around 6:15 (when we arrived) to around 8:30 am and then it went relatively quiet until around noon when we left. Caught a dozen and lost another 6 or 7 among 5 of us. Electric down riggers and pink hootchies mostly both sides of 70 feet were successful.

Ya; I thought that may have been the case (early bite) as one of the fellows in a boat that passed close to us said that it was really good in the early morning, and then the bite died.
