Tidal Fraser River, August 23rd 2014
« on: August 23, 2014, 09:37:58 PM »

After attempting to target Sockeye over the past 3 weekends and only 3 bites to show for it, I decided that one of our 2 rods was going to target springers instead today.  Trolled cut plug herring and managed to get this jack to hit right around high slack tide.  Boy was I not expecting it!  Good day to be out, wind was very mild today right until sundown.  Ran into DFO too, checked our hooks for barbs, licenses, our cooler, asked if we had life jackets - glad to see them doing their job amidst all the cuts to their budget.  Can't wait to try again tomorrow.

Good job Dr.Backlash! Wow, I always wondered if trolling salt gear/bait would work in the river. Coming in from the salt I've noticed the odd boat back trolling in the river, but that was west of Steveston. I didn't ever know if they were successful. Again, nice work!

Thanks!  Tried again last night but no luck.  Saw way less fish on the sounder and just less fish jumping in general than we did on Saturday.  Tons more boat traffic (commercial or native boats) just cruising up river non stop the whole time we were out, which makes fishing from a 14.5ft aluminum a little more challenging.  But can't wait to give it a try again next long weekend before the bait ban comes into effect - might try prawn spinners!  Late morning flood tides look to be a little more favourable than early evening flood tides next weekend too.  Water is still very murky
