probably the mid september mark for closure.  Majority in Johnstone strait headed to the Fraser. May be here in next week to ten days.  Large commercial opening on Monday for Gill netters 24 hr period. Guessing fishing won't be spectacular next week.

Thats why they call it fishing though and not catching....

C&Ped from one of Lower Fraser resource manager's emails a few weeks ago.

"If the season shapes up similar to 2010 you will likely see the recreational fishery for sockeye remain open through at least mid-September. In 2010, the fishery closed to retention on Sept 18th or 19th."

Rod, can you give us insight on the peak timing of the run or in other words, roughly until when we can expect the rec fishing to be "consistent"? I remember you posted run timing approximate but I can't find that thread right now. Thank you

Check out the Pacific Salmon Commission catch stats here.  The link I included is in Area 13 (Johnstone Strait).
Note that there's not much consistency.  Same inconsistency happens in the Fraser - if you're there when a big school pushes by you're catching.  If you're in between pushes, you're practicing your cast  ;)

In past years the Adams River run would hold off Sandheads and you could almost set your calendar by their move upstream on Sept. 18.  In more recent years the move upstream has been earlier and more distributed over several days.  In 2010 there were lots of moving fish apparent off Steveston during the first few days of Sept.
