« on: June 25, 2004, 08:44:48 AM »

OK - I think this guy:

http://www.freediver.net/iusa/display_record.php?id=32

may have held his breath.   :o

But this guy:

http://www.freediver.net/iusa/display_record.php?id=94

probably had scuba gear :)

That's pretty cool. But how would you "land" something like that when you're not attached to anything (just free floating in the water). I may be missing something but it seems pretty damn diffiucult to get a 600 lb fish to cooperate with a 180 lb human.

Im almost sure all of these fish were caught freediving(holding your breath) That grouper was taken with a sling. They manage to get in these huge fish with a large float like a barrle. They shoot the fish and the spear has a string attached to the float. It swims around gets tired and then they finish it. I used to spearfish lots and i was really into it but....... nothing beats salmon fishing. Im addictide and nothing is nearly as fun(or expensive) ;D

As far as i know, Fishing with scuba gear ( Tanks etc) is against the regulations for claiming a record. But I also know that the spear is connected to a float, and as you say kelly, once the spear is in the fish, then the float does the rest. There is also the type were there is a fishing reel on the spear gun, and then it is like fishing with a broom stick after the fish is hit.
