Fraser River Mouth, August 9th 2014
« on: August 09, 2014, 04:23:13 PM »

I got out a little later than I like to and found approximately 50 other boats out in front of the airport. Beauty day! Lost 4 and bonked 2. Not bad for the first time out for sox this year. I saw a few others caught but no one I asked got their limit. Got'em at 70ft on glo head red hootchies. If the wife allows, I'll be back out tomorrow.

I should also mention that there were a couple (looked like two) orca out there. They were there when I first arrived and I thought the bite was going to be OFF but they left and the bite was on.

Them Orcas can be very intimidating in a small boat.
Is amazing how they can dive right under the boat and never touch a line.
Thanks for the report. :)

I was out there again yesterday too. It was major windy and wavy. I checked when we got home and was blowing at 11 knots (approximately 20 km/hr). We were barely able to hang in until noon. We hooked 6 fish and got three into the boat. What a panic in a heaving boat. I couldn't have done it solo (took my buddy with me). I realised that I needed to address some gear issues (change up some dummy flashers, hooks, replace some old soc hootchies, etc.) and I thought I would deal with it in the boat with my buddy, but the waves were so large that we couldn't do anything but use the old gear, so I think this affected our catch ratio. You need maximum flash for these fish. jimstone is right in that a lot of boats got blown off the pond. As I am on holidays this week, I might try to get out again this afternoon if the wind dies down. I love this fishery and look forward to it every few years.
