Sage rods
« on: February 20, 2014, 09:48:04 PM »

Hi, I am choosing a 5wt rod and looking at the sage circa or sage one. Does anyone have any experience with the rods? Thanks. :D

I have the Sage One 4100-4 and the One 5100-4 and love their action and dynamic casting accuracy.  They are expensive but excellent rods.  I use them fishing Chironamids and the 4 wt. on the Skagit for rainbows.  Have not fished the Circa so have no assessment.

really depends what you will be using it for

One is going to be more of an all purpose rod where as the Circa series sound more like a specialty rod

I will be using it for chironomids, dries and regular leeches mostly on lakes but also on rivers.

In my opinion the One series would be a better fit.

You could even step down the ladder a bit and grab a Sage mid range rod (VXP....) upside here is you could buy 2 for the price of one  :)

for chironomids on lakes, try and go for a longer rod (10ft) to help out with the long leaders with indicators and casting at a lower height such as sitting on a boat. Itll also work wonderfully when nymphing for trout.

I've never seen a Sage rod that I didn't like, and they've all handled line weights above and below the recommended one. Most good rods today are built beyond the ability of the anglers using them.

To date, Sage warranty and service is second to none. Fished nothing but sage rods for close to 20 yrs. Have used their warranty twice, both times my fault, not a product problem.
