Fished 7am to 9am today caught and released 4 males , lost another three all in the first 45 minutes.  From 7 to 8 the bite was really on, more fish surfacing and jumping than I've seen so far this year, and everyone was getting fish. Then there was a period of the fish being visibly there but no hookups. By 8:15 there were a few (say one per minute) splashes and jumps but no-one even got a nibble.

From my observations, it almost doesn't matter what lure you have. I've been watching people either side of me fish spoons, jigs, buzz bombs, spin-n-glows, spinners under floats, spinners on their own, pink worms. I fish with a pink/silver croc and I'm consistently out fishing them not because of the lure, certainly not with skill or knowledge, but the fact that my lure is in the water for much more time than theirs. Personally, with my rod and line combination, I find I can cast a spoon much further than I can a spinner and then I retrieve it as slowly as I dare. I get hookups way out and I get them close in. That said, maybe I'm just lucky.  ;D

.......glad I have tomorrow off, back again same time same place - hope the luck holds out. I get the sense however that the very best fishing is still ahead of us and the numbers going upstream are increasing.

I was out as well this morning. When I arrived around first light they were rolling close to shore. No action for first hour or so and then got lucky on a 1/2 oz blue strips hammered croc. Landed one and lost one. Pretty happy to get one to the beach after going 0/11 this season.

Next cast I snag my croc, not happy to have to break it off. Tie on a pink lightning and hook up again right away unfortunately I forgot to loosen my drag after breaking off and end up losing the fish right at the shore! Rookie mistake for sure:(

Packed her in and headed to work by 830.

The ice has finally broken should be some more coming my way.

Thnks to those who have provided advice or tips on the flow or forum!:):):)

I was out at New West this morning between 6am and 9am on an strong incoming tide.   Firstly, I was amazed at the number of people out fishing,  I had to move away from a favored spot to somewhere quieter because I prefer not to be fishing with people 6 feet either side of me.   I like company but not too much company.   Fortunately I could still find a nice area that remains neglected and has fished well for me in the past.

Interesting to hear how some are doing well because it has been a total skunker for me and almost everyone else around me every time I have gone out this past week.   There have been fish moving by and one guy landed three everybody else zero.   Took a look to see if he was doing anything special but he was just casting the same pink spoons as all the other guys clustered around him with the same depth and retrieve speed so I can only chalk that up to good luck.

Nice to see good visibility on the river this season compared with the 2011 season - that can only help.

Note: Every time I have gone out and fished the icoming tide about 2 to 3 hours before peak which I have always assumed to be optimal.   I will play around with the outgoing tides and even low tide - interested to see if I can do better then.   In previous seasons I have seen people walking away with good catches on the lower tides.

I fished from 7-8 on the Richmond side....landed 4, lost 3 and missed a couple subtle tugs...from fish! Its the first Fraser river action for me after 5 outings. Most everyone there was into at least a couple fish. Incredible amount of sea lice on these fish.

I counted 17 lice on one of my 3 fish. lost another 3, missed 2 or 3 takes. IT HAS BEGUN!

Went out this morning on Delta side, landed 4 lost 5. Not as good as yesterday morning. the action wasn't consistent between all anglers like yesterday morning. Some got lucky some got skunked.

Nothing for me this morning on the incoming tide either; had a couple of bites but that was it - it was tough out there.  Didn't see nearly as many fish either as yesterday - they also seemed to be much further out from shore today

Try using a lure that can go further, you need to almost reach them to get bites. I casted as far as I could but i was still 10-15 feet away from the porpoising schools. It seemd to be close enough cause I got a lot of hits.

I do not think it is just luck. Yesterday I saw maybe the same guy. He landed 5 and lost a few in 1.5 hours. Person next to him with the same setup  -0.

Technique can be important, though pinks usually are willing biters,
Not so today though. Maple Ridge had almost no fish caught this morning on the dock but a good showing of fish on the surface. Damn.

Spent the afternoon in Richmond today.  Hooked into 4 pinks, only landed one however.  All were chrome, and a nice mix of males and females.  Until today I hadn't landed or even seen a female hooked while I've been out over the past week.

Fish were rolling in steady with the incoming tide.

Incoming tide this morning at the dump was productive, 4 males and 1 female all landed and released.
Decided to check out South Dyke during around lunch, fish were rolling through but way out of reach; wish there was a beach area to get in the water to fly cast but then it would be as busy as the dump.

I agree with the note on casting further thus far into the season. Most of the time the pinks have been out further, only a few times I had a pink roll in front of me - maybe the crazy fishing is just starting!?

Derby Reach,

Good fishing for me, not so good for others although I did see a few people with the odd one here and there. All in all it was an enjoyable afternoon on the river. Lots of fish going by, some close in and lots mid river.

Fished south Richmond from 7:00 to 9:30.   From about 7:15 to 8:30 the fish were rolling though in densly packed schools.  Then nothing.   Manged a nice buck, released.

Back at 15:30 until 18:00.   Nothing moving when I got there.   Rollers started appearing about 16:15 and continued until 17:45 and then nothing.  At the peak there were dense schools within 20 ft. from shore.    On each cast you could feel continuous bumps from fish hitting your line.    Not much success so I have to try a different technique.

In both cases it was a rising tide.  Presumably they were coming in with the tide but as the tide timing shifted over the past few days, the peak visibility for fish seems constant relative to dawn and dusk.   Are they still rolling past and just down at the bottom and the lighting early and late brings them to the surface?  Anybody on the water with a fish finder who can offer an observation?
