Hiked into Edith Lake with a buddy yesterday. Few guys out in pontoons who were doing well. Tough fishing from shore, only a couple of spots to roll cast and one to cast properly. Managed to hook 3, land 2 in a couple of hours once I got dialed in. Small shrimp pattern inched along the bottom got them all.
Very interesting - there were a TON of tadpoles in the water, and I wondered to myself if the fish ever eat them. Well, one of the fish I caught had a belly FULL of them, like over 20, + a ton of little tiny, tiny shrimp, almost looked like pink/translucent chironomids. Never seen/heard of trout eating tadpoles before.
The other interesting thing was to compare an over-wintered fish to a freshly stocked one. The hatchery stocked fish's flesh was literally grey in colour as compared to the over-wintered fish which was bright and orange.
