Blank recommendation
« on: March 18, 2013, 06:24:34 PM »

Hey guys,

I am new to rod building and would like to try my first build.  I would like to build a spinning rod mainly for coho/pinks.
I currently fish with a Trophy XL TG290C 9' 8-15 lb.  I like this rod and would like something similar in the 9-10' range, middle of the road price range since this is my first. I have looked on Cabelas and a few other web sites but there are so many blanks to choose from.  Any recommendations??????

Thanks

My Coho spinning rod is a Mudhole ST1022-MHx 8'6", 4-8lb test, 3/16-1/2oz. It is a very nice blank - light, responsive, fast action.
I used it for Coho last year and hooked some Chum brutes on 8lb test. The rod had insufficient backbone for big chum but is more than enough for Pinks and Coho (under 12 lbs).
If I were starting again I would go with one power heavier. For Mudhole they are ST1083F-MHx, ST1143-MHx, and ST1203-MHx for the 9', 9'6", and 10' blanks.

Thanks Typhoon.  I'll have at look at those.
