Any herpetologists out there?
« on: April 21, 2013, 10:42:57 AM »

A recently shed 7 foot snake skin has been found at the Great Blue Heron reserve on the lower Vedder River.  If this was not put there by some snake owner to freak out the locals, it means what appears to be a python has been released there. My question is ... can a python survive a Chilliwack winter?
In any case, be on the lookout for a big snake on the lower Vedder :o

Another site has suggested this skin is from a Bull Snake, which apparenty get that big.  Seems to make more sense than a python but gives more credence to a 7' snake living at the GBHR.  Think I will stay away from there, regardless of species ..

Bull snake would be in the south BC interior & other parts of US. ( south Alberta & SK )
So I read on web.
Python possibly could live in the crawl space under a house where it could get warmth & who knows some rodents may also be present.
Just add this "shed skin" to the fears of Big Foot & UFO sightings.

Interesting though about snakes is that an est. of 90,000 to 120,000 die annually from the venomous bites per yr.
50,000 in India.

I despise snakes - best ones are the pizza buggers you see plated on the road!!
So perhaps there is a honkin big snake, species unknown, living on the lower Vedder; go look for it people; I'll pass ;)
