3 of those pictures, it looks like those fish were caught by flossing , look at where the hooks are on the outside of the mouth.

you guys are obviously not familiar with the anatomy of the salmonid species...what you think is outside the mouth is actually beneath the maxillary bone (referring to the hook positions of the last 2 fish)...but regardless, when fish strike, they sometimes hit the bait side ways which can cause the hook to penetrate the outer lip rather than inside...pretty common when trolling for salmon in the salt chuck.

When fishing with an intruder, pink worm and a trout bead (slid up an inch of two from the hooked and pegged into place on the line) to name a few, the fish will take the bait and not really the hook. When they take the bait/fly the hook will slide in and hook them outside of the mouth. This prevents deep hooking/swallowing and less injury to the fish, especially when fishing with beads like awurban@msn.com is. This fish really like to take them deep so this prevents the hook from going down deep by catching its outer lip before it could go down.

Those are all excellent photos.

The three photos I voted for are ones that are different than they typical "grip and grin" shots. 

I would have to say my favourite of them all is GLX's shot of a spotted dorsal fin amongst the waves with a desert background... truly beautiful and unique!
