Chilliwack River, October 5th 2012
« on: October 05, 2012, 11:33:58 AM »

Got out at first light and i think it will be my last :( Started fishing and after about 10 minutes first guy shows up saying nothing just walks out half way across the channel not more 5 feet down from my buddy making it hard for buddy to drift. He proceeds to cast and rip ??? Then two flossers show up and do the same thing!!! Lasted another 1o minutes and packed it in and just sat and watched. It was kind of funny because i swear one of the flossers was all hopped up on something because the guy would take three or four casts and then book it up top take a few casts then book it back to the bottom  and repeat ??? Saw a few caught but not many but lots of fish coming through.

Visited The Blue Cup at first light. Only Gerald there and had a jack while I was parking the Leaf Mobile. Fished 30 minutes before I took Lew for his birthday breakfast at The Point, used a gift certificate my wife had won somewhere so breaky tasted better. ;D

We then went to try where the Master got into some jacks yesterday but the tide was not right.

Will go back out for the tide after a nap and getting ready for the opening of web feet tomorrow.

So how is it different from any other year?  Anyways, yeah it sucks you have to move to a different spot even though you were there first.  There's not a lot you can do it about, except to quit fishing.

Yes it is ! It was just the fact he waded out almost all the way across taking the drift away from my buddy without even saying a word!

I think something needs to be done...what can we do as a group on a fishing forum to contact DFO with a petition maybe to help regulate this my smelly socks...but hey probably wasting my breath. every time I see a snagger flosser come into the area I am fishing, I ask him why he is flossing or snagging, the last one just pretended not to speak English.  Oh well he beaked me out, I walk right up to shoulder shoulder and proceed to cast over his line every drift and make it difficult for him...hahaha. Why should I leave and get beaked out by the unethical fisherman. I guess it is just easier to leave and find another spot.  Hopefully none of what is going on out there leads to violence, although I can see it happening. What a joke, you might as well leave anyways for the fish holding in the area will be more then spooked and very difficult to get to bite after the snag rip sploosh technique. So petition for a leader restriction on all our local rivers, unless otherwise posted for selective fishery openings...what do you guys think? lets get er done.

Yes, unfortunately in the world we live in, this will happen everywhere even when there are no crowds around.  Happened to me when I was on the Bella Coola river.  I arrived to a section of the river with no one else in sight and then a group of 3 guys showed up and waded right in front of me and took away my drift area.  I tried to keep fishing and expectedly ended up hooking into one guy's waders.  I apologized and kept fishing.  I wasn't going to just quit and let him take over the river.  With waders on, those guys could have fished anywhere but chose to wade out in front of me.  It wasn't even a pool I was fishing in.  It was a run where the fish were migrating through.  It is unfortunate.  But I have accepted this reality.

Got out at first light with my buddy. We fished roe and landed 3 jacks in 10 minutes then the rippers showed up and the fish were all spooked. we stuck around for an hour but no takers so we decided to move up river. Hooked into a nice adult spring and 3 chummers. We left by noon.

A proposal for some changes has just come out, will be discussed at the up coming SFAC meeting.

Also continue to put your thoughts here as we can send link to the person in FOC working on it but I am sure he reads FWR. ;D ;D

Does not hurt to write letters that's for sure as now is the time to do so.

Nice Chris.  I think even though the same subjects are brought up over and over again, there are good points raised.  I personally think we should have to take a course prior to getting a fishing license.  Many of the people on the river are just ignorant.  They have no clue what is ethical, what is sporting, what is wrong etc.  We can talk about leader lengths, but it won't stop a guy from ripping his weighted line with no float through a school of fish either.  Education is the answer.  Make everyone take a course, we can teach what is acceptable and what is not.

Pointless driller ! Look at a drivers licence, you have to take several tests to get it but once you have ethics are gone and ego and stupidity take over!

I agree with driller, and i also agree with rant a bit, both have valid points.
how ever taking a course on how to will at least allow some, Not all but some to understand that they are doing wrong.
There are some out there with a concience. and to those with out one they will keep doing what they are doing because our government doesn't want or care to stop them.

I would suggest if you are actually serious write some letters to your local MP. Do not just rant and curse POACHER. Write it well, use proper grammar if you want to be taken seriously. and don't just photocopy someone else paper and sign your name. The more they get the more chance there is of change. They only do what is most popular to their voters. So raise a stink in your community if your serious and just maybe things will change in time.
There are my 2 cents. now im going to bed so i can short float some nicely cured roe before some paintball. Good night fellas and hope you have tight lines with out flossers lines attached. ::)
